Theatre II

Overview of Course:

Theatre Arts II is the follow up course for students previously enrolled in Theatre Arts I and is intended for students wishing to continue their education and exploration of Theatre Arts. It is a more detailed and demanding study of theatrical literature, vocabulary, acting, and technical theatre. We will begin the semester with a brief review of concepts that should have been learned in Theatre I before delving into the study of the origins of theatre. The acting experience in Theatre II will further the exploration of the concepts of self, body, vocal health, voice work, improvisation, and acting techniques. In addition, students will analyze and critique work developed by themselves or other students, as well as works that have been generated by various cultures throughout history.  In this course, students will learn the history and origins of theatre through scene work, monologues, pantomimes, and improvisations. Though this is a history heavy course, students will remain actively engaged in performance. Intensive preparation and extensive written analysis of performances is expected. Theatre II is a more demanding course than Theatre I and requires keen time-management skills  and involves substantial collaboration with peers.

***Prerequisite: Theatre I
