Tech Theatre

Overview of Course:

Technical Theatre I & II is a one-semester combined course that is designed to expose students to all aspects of play production with an emphasis on design and production. This class is largely project based with students learning the fundamentals of design and production: safety, costuming, makeup design, lighting, sound, and set construction. The class will feature an in-depth exploration of the Elements of Design and how each element relates to areas of design and production. Students in technical theatre I will work on projects based on each area of design and production in the theatre classroom. Technical theatre I primarily works in class; students in this course do not work on the school productions in class, but may apply for the school technical crew if they are interested in practical application. Though we will not be studying acting in this course, there will be performance expectations in which students must present on a regular basis for feedback in front of their peers. For students returning, technical theatre II is a continuation of skills learned in technical theatre I. Students involved in this course will be required to assist in the school production. Technical theatre II is a more hands on class with more focus on practical application of previously learned skills.

NOTE: The 2020 school year has looked very *different* this year. Please use this syllabus as a rough guide. We will need to give each other grace in this new season of learning as we are all learning! Please know that I am here to support your learning, but you will be held accountable for contributing to discussions, activities, and turning in your assignments.
